Billy Rodrick put up a wire fence the week
after the death of his little child, and Levi Waldron went and
helped him. He also scraped dirt and hauled dirt and rock and burned
sage to fill in the low places in the county roads, working his road
tax. Hauling post and drawing lains was all in a days work.
Some of them would split the difference if they found they were short of
the amount of acerage required. However Ben found a certain lane
to be a nuisance, a place for stray cattle to loiter. he proceeded
to close it. This brought about a protest from friend Evan
Jenkins. They went to the Bishop's court to settle it. Ben
lost. "I'll take it to the Malad", Ben Protested "My
lawyer will be there", was Evan's reply. The trial ended, Ben
Lost. "I'll take it to the courts of Boise", Ben exclaimed.
"My lawyer will be there", was Evan's reply. To the
Boise courts they went, and Ben lost again. Greatly upset by such defeat
Ben exclaimed "I'll take it to the courts of Hell". " My
lawyer will be there", Evan assured him. This served a good
laugh to the lawyers in Boise for many years to come and the lane in
question became known as "Lawsuit Lane". |
