A special city council meeting was held April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at city hall. Mayor Spence Horlsey presided with council member Larry Thomas, Joe Thomas, Ruth Zivkovic and Tom Jenkins present. Also in attendance were Clerk Susan Wittman, Attorney Steve Brooks and President Brent Evanson.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed change of zoning from R-1 to R-2 in the 2nd phase of Field of Dreams subdivision. The LDS church would like to build a stake chapel building in this area.
Malad LDS Stake President Brent Evanson showed the council a blue print of the new center. It will have front footage of 400 feet facing West. They have obtained 4.6 acres of land. It is the largest stake center the church builds. There will be 298 parking spaces and the grounds will be complete fenced other than the 2 entrances.
The sewer and water is not a problem. A fire hydrant will be installed if one is required.
Spence asked Tom if the Planning & Zoning had comments from their meeting. Tom said Rossell Mills requested that only the church property be zoned R-2.
Joe moved to rezone 4.6 acres of land in the Field of Dreams subdivision belonging to the LDS Church to R-2 to build a new stake center. Ruth seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
